This piece was cast using a hand-built mold and hollow core. It was cast with a technique to create unusual color blends and richness under varying illumination. Charlie worked on the Shelter series for about 10 years, creating cast glass pieces using the house motif to express the illusion of domestic stability in visual opposition to the conflicts of proximity. He wrote, “For me the form of a shelter is a metaphor for many of our needs, hopes and dreams. I imagine things solid, stable and attainable. But in reality they are shifting, tilting and drifting out of reach.”
