Ceramic sculpture of the Decatur, GA, MARTA Station and Plaza Space / Luminaries – located in downtown Decatur, GA. The building, base, plaza-roof and station art panels are made of high-grog clay for resilience and strength.
The hand built sculpture is part of a series of architectural-based ‘landmarks’ – in the City of Decatur – that were created to form a community TOTEM. The piece was started during the COVID-19 pandemic when ceramic and art co-ops closed for public safety and I lost access to a pottery wheel. I shifted my efforts to making art with my hands and was drawn to creating sculptures that reminded me of the home, places, and community I knew before the difficult times.
Individual pieces of the TOTEM reflect the promise of ‘PROXIMITY,’ and the knowledge that we are not alone – as we share common places and dreams.
