Traffic Signal Boxes become Works of Art

The Decatur Arts Alliance worked with Decatur resident/artist, Larry Holland of Fishbone Art, to begin a new public art initiative: the Decatur Box Project. Artists were selected through an open call for submissions to transform traffic signal boxes around the city of Decatur into colorful, whimsical works of art. Without an overarching theme (and with very minimal submission limitations), artists were encouraged to create designs that are unique and engaging.  Explore the map to find locations of the latest round of painted boxes (installed in 2022) – and connect with the artists who contribute to Decatur’s creative culture.

This public art project is ongoing, so a new round of installations is always just around the corner… Artists are invited to keep an eye out for the next call for submissions to share their vision with Decatur residents and visitors.
