In collaboration with Legacy Decatur and the City of Decatur, the Decatur Arts Alliance is transforming four unused buildings in Legacy Park into affordable housing and studio spaces for artists. Through direct support for artists and intentional engagement with the public through an annual “give-back” program, the Creative Village will contribute to a thriving creative community and expand Decatur’s equitable access to art programming.

Objectives
Housing is expensive in Decatur, and there is a significant need for affordable apartments and studio spaces for creatives. The Creative Village is a communal space that will be dedicated to creative expression while supporting the very basic needs of local artists. As it develops and matures, the Creative Village’s “give-back” program will promote community and art at Legacy Park.
Community By-In
Decatur residents and City Commissioners voted in support of the Creative Village project during open forums for city planning in XXXX, entrusting the Decatur Arts Alliance with the task of establishing and maintaining the program. Funding revenues include grants, foundations, and the charitable involvement of local supporters. Several individuals and businesses have already committed to providing in-kind gifts and services to the project. You can too! (link)
“Give-Back” Program
Creative Village residents participate in an annual “give-back” program, offering a variety of free or ow-cost art engagement opportunities to the public including open studios, classes, workshops, gallery exhibitions, benefit concerts or public artwork.
