My work begins as a hunt and ends in an intuitive culmination. I am drawn to vintage books for the inherent mystery and authentic energy they hold: an unknown provenance, a mostly undocumented exchange of hands; stains, writings, marks creating an overlapping personal history infused in the aging pages and worn covers. I use the book pages or covers as a base for my pieces and any images I find inside as my inspiration. I then scan, print, collage, paint and draw intuitively to create a composition that centers around the contrasts and energetic subtleties that exist between the physical and spiritual worlds. By adding my work to these books and sending them back out, I feel I am giving them new life while simultaneously imbuing myself in its history.
