My concerns with our environment and endangered species have inspired my work with clay, using my hands to shape the earth in an essential way. I am aware of the resources I use as an artist and aim to conserve whenever I can. These sculptures were created with the intention that they can be displayed outside. Using high-fire clay I threw closed forms on the potter’s wheel, then altered and added clay to the pieces. Firing with wood produces marks on the surface and the placement in the kiln determines the amount of ash glaze that settles on each form. Thus, each sculpture may differ depending on these environmental factors as well as my own impressions in the clay.
