Documentary Screening Oct. 16 | 5-7 p.m. | Decatur Library.

Come see the story of American treasure Lois Curtis and witness her charm and creative beauty in The Art of Being LC, a film by Carl King.

From institutionalization to the US Supreme Court, LC blazed a path for freedom for herself and thousands of others. In 1999 DeKalb County native L.C. stood before the US Supreme Court to demand her right under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to live in community rather than continue to be “unjustifiably segregated” in institutions. Her successful argument before the Supreme Court became known as the Olmstead Decision. “Olmstead” secured Lois Curtis’ place in American history as a great liberator and set Lois free to find her gifts as an artist.

Screening sponsored by The Decatur Arts Alliance and The DeKalb County Public Library.
